This study focuses on the stability-losing of rock. A new model for the stability-losing of rock is found in this paper. On the base of the model the condition for occurring of rock stability-losing is given, the energy released during the course of rock stabilitylosing is calculated and the equation for the course is derived. Research shows that the unloading of the part region of the rock directly does work on the other part of the rock leads to the material lose stable and the stability-losing process is just the fork process of the stress-strain curve for the different regions in the rock. The study indicates that the released energy in the rock stability-losing process is determined by the stored elastic energy in the energy release region, the absorbed energy for the damage of the energy absorb region and the remained elastic energy before the damage of the energy absorb region.
