The experimental apparatus for in-situ observation of horizontal centrifugal casting process has been newly developed. Using this apparatus, following conclusions have been derived. 1) Equiaxed grains oscillated with respect to the mold wall. They advanced along the rotational direction when the glass cell moved downward. Contrary to this, equiaxed grains slowed down when the glass cell moved upward. These movements of equiaxed grains are attributed to the effect of acceleration due to gravity. Equiaxed grains moved to the opposite direction of rotation. This is attributed to the inertia of liquid phase and slipping of liquid phase at the interface.
