The absorption and dissolution rate of a tablet is necessary in the pharmaceutical industry for theprediction of drug performance in the body. The TIM, created by TNO, is an in vitro model thatproduces an environment which closely resembles in vivo performance. Here, the stomach isisolated in the TIM and the dissolution process is compared to that of the USP II. Variability intablet dissolution rates between the TIM and USPII can result from differences in volume offluid, flow profile, and sampling methods. A comparison of the TIM and USPII release profileswill be made to determine the importance of each of these differences.
