Open Innovation Dilemma in China

摘要

Open innovation suggests that companies cannot afford the entire costs for innovation and some useless innovation for one company may get tremendous success in another company via commercialization. For Chinese companies, open innovation is an opportunity to boost technology development. On the contrary, for foreign ones, Chinese companies may not be their ideal partners to conduct open innovation due to the potential loss from Chinese companies’ copy behavior. This paper will take intellectual property rights and product life cycle into account to reveal the dilemma between the two sides in a normative approach.
