Use of wood structures in the new headquarters of the National Center of Researches for the Conservation of Natural Predators - CENAP/IBAMA - Brazil

The Brazilian Institute of Environment and Renewable Natural Resources (IBAMA) possesses several research centers destined to the production of information concerning the Brazilian flora and fauna. The National Center of Researches for the Conservation of Natural Predators (CENAP) was created with the intention of stimulating, to coordinate and to develop management activities, researches and conservation with carnivorous animals' species that happen at the country. In the conception of the new headquarters of CENAP, constructive solutions were proposed as executed by the Forest Products Laboratory in several wood buildings. The building presents mixed constructive solutions with masonries and armed concrete slabs over pressure treated eucalyptus round wood structures with up to two pavements. The presence of wood exposes its many possibilities as a unique structural and constructive material.
