Evaluating the Successful Sustainable Outcome Criteria in the AEC industry using Analytic Hierarchy Process

The owners' commitment level to the completion of the sustainable project isimperative for implementing sustainability in the Architecture, Engineering, andConstruction industry. Besides the owners, the architects, engineers, and contractorsalso play a great role in the construction process. It was hypothesized in this paperthat the architects, engineers, and contractors believe that the quality of the completedstructure is essential for maintaining owners' level of commitment to sustainability.This paper presents the results for the survey on evaluating the successful sustainableoutcome criteria so that practical experiences from their point of view onsustainability are obtained. Respondents were asked to answer which attribute hasgreater influence on the attribute one level higher in the hierarchy and to what extentthey prefer. Twenty completed surveys were collected and the analytic hierarchyprocess (AHP) was applied to analyze the data. The results indicate that the quality ofthe finished product is the most significant effect on sustainability because the overallperformance after completion is the most important factor when designing andbuilding a facility.
