To improve the solubility and gene tranfection efficiency of chitosan, methylated N-(4-N,N-dimethyl aminobenzyl) chitosans (MDMB-CS) were synthesized. The morphological and physicochemical characteristics, and transfection efficiency of MDMB-CS/pDNA complexes at varying N:P ratios were studied. MDMB-CS showed a great potential for gene carrier with the high level of gene transfection efficiencies and the negligible cytotoxic in Huh 7 cells.
