Gas-filled ultrasound microbubble contrast agents are useful for perfusion and molecular imaging. We injected microbubbles in mice intraperitoneally (intravenous administration is normally performed). Ultrasonic imaging shows that microbubbles are gradually transferred into the bloodstream. Intraperitoneally administered microbubbles may serve as a sustained release depot (several hours) of intravascular ultrasound contrast.
