Drug Delivery for Local Tumor Management: OncoGel~R Clinical Experience

OncoGel is a cremophor-free formulation of paclitaxel in a biodegradable copolymer, ReGel~R, for local delivery to solid tumors. OncoGel has been well tolerated in clinical studies to date with no systemic toxicity and early evidence of efficacy. ReGel is a thermosensitive triblock copolymer, poly(lactide-co-glycolide)-polyethylene glycol-poly(lactide-co-glycolide). ReGel is an aqueous based polymer that is a liquid at administration temperature and forms a controlled release gel depot at body temperature. Paclitaxel is released locally from the OncoGel depot[l]. Both preclinical and clinical studies are being conducted with OncoGel to support development [2-4].
