The Cause of Formation of Beardsley's Illustrations for Salome

The English outstanding illustrator Aubrey Beardsley has exerted a great influence in the peaceful English drawing field in the late nineteenth century in spite of his short creative time. As a talented and controversial person, he has been recognized as a remarkable genius of many ages and people can get a rough idea of his talent from his illustrations for Salome, the play of French playwright Wilde. It is clearly recognized that Beardsley's illustrations for Salome have his confirmed style: the straight hairlines and the pattern of white-black background with the clearly-recognized symbols. The illustrator portrayed vividly and lively the topics of horrors and sexual love in the original, and gave prominence to the morbid and erotic style which produced strongly visual stimulus. As a produced objective, the illustration is just the material reflection of the illustrator's spiritual world and his inner heart; meanwhile, it directly indicates Beardsley's esthetic standard and extraordinary experience of society which is indivisible from his personal causes and social causes.
