The Energy Policy Act of 2005 (EPAct 2005), signed by President Bush on August 8, 2005, is the most comprehensive energy bill ever passed in the United States. On the demand side, EPAct 2005 embodies numerous provisions that encourage significant improvements in lighting energy efficiency. These include the commercial buildings tax deduction (EPAct 2005 Section 1331). Successful implementation of EPAct 2005 lighting provisions, including the commercial buildings tax deduction will benefit the nation by reducing energy use at a time of high prices, improving the environment, and benefiting the industry through increased opportunities for high value product applications.
