Landfill Energy Systems (LES) has developed and operates a wide range of landfill gas fueled engine and turbine power generating facilities throughout the United States. The operations and maintenance of these facilities are affected by the presence of siloxanes in the gas that form deposits that increase costs and reduce reliability. To expand the knowledge of siloxanes in biogas and related removal processes, LES is hosting a siloxane removal demonstration program at the Ocean County, NJ landfill as part of a broader SWANA subcommittee program on siloxane removal.The demonstration program involves a temperature swing regenerable desiccant dryer prior to a CAT 3516 engine. The paper presents a description of the effects of siloxane on the engine, a discussion of the testing program and results since March 2005, and the expected economics of a full-scale commercial removal system.
