A vehicle on crown roads tends to drift to one side due to the lateral gravity force. Various vehicle parameters can affect the sensitivity of the vehicle drift to the road crown angle. This paper presents an analytical approach for evaluating vehicle drift robustness and reliability to improve vehicle parameter design. The approach integrates the multi-body simulation, parameter sensitivity analysis, parameter optimization, two-step parameter design, and reliability assessment. A new signal-to-noise ratio is formulated for Taguchi robust parameter design. The simulation results and analysis using a vehicle model built in ADAMS, shows that the new approach is efficient and capable to determine the optimal design minimizing vehicle lateral drift with various road crown angles.
