Liposome-DNA complexes (I.e. lipoplexes)composed of DOPE yield higher levels oftransfection than when replaced with cholesterol.Additionally, when egg phosphotidylcholine (PC) isincluded in the vesicle bilayer transfection efficiencyis reduced even further, where the liposomes bilayeris stabilised and rendered more rigid, preventingendosomal disruption and delivery of plasmid DNAinto the cytoplasm.
