Recombinant Transferrin-Based Fusion Proteins for Oral Delivery of Protein Drugs

A functionally active fusion protein,consisting of granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (GCSF)and transferrin (Tf) moieties, was prepared by usingrecombinant technology. This fusion protein, G-CSF-Tf,exhibited a myelopoietic effect after oral administration in BDF1 mice. Results from this study suggest thepossibility of constructing various Tf-fusion proteins toproduce a series of therapeutic protein drugs with oralbioavailability.
