Hydride generation procedures for lead from rice samples has been described by using quartz tube atomizer directly heated up through the flame. A experimental design has been used as a strategy for evaluation of the effects of several parameters affecting the absorption efficiency and atomization efficiency from quartz tube atomizer. The effects of parameters such as a influence of the concentration of KBH_4, hydrochloric acid and transition metal cations interference have been investigated. The minimization of transition metals interference on the determination of lead are eliminated by hydride generation atomic absorption spectrometry using K_3Fe(CN)_6 and oxalic acid as masking agents was studied. The detection limits of is 0.025 ng-ml~(-1). The recovery rate is 98.0%-103.0%, the relative standard deviation is 0.9%-2.3% and liner range is 0-50 ng-ml~(-1). The accuracy of the method has been verified by using standard reference material from. This method is simple, rapid, sensitive and excellent practical application.
