The introduction of standardized electronic communication systems in agriculturalmachinery enables automatic process data acquisition in crop production processes in arelatively simple way. Process data of tractors and implements combined with positioning data ofa GPSreceiver can be logged by a file server. Thus a new quality of process documentationtakes place. By such a detailed georeferenced data base an information guided crop productioncan be established. On the one hand possible applications are classic farm software tools, likefield books, that can be filled with information avoiding manual data input. On the other newfarming technologies like site specific or transborder farming can be based on process datainformation. Last but not least traceability in crop production can only be accomplished with asecure and complete documentation system, which consequently has to be automatic.To realize automatic process data acquisition prototype systems based on agriculturalBUS-systems (LBS DIN9684 / ISOBUS ISO 11783) have been developed at the TechnischeUniversitaet Muenchen during the last years. One aim of the project was to model and conceiveadequate tools for data and information management using the automatic logged process data.Therefore an offline- and an online- alternative was investigated by prototyping. Experiences inthe project have shown, that a sensible use of process data requires an easy to use and powerfulinformation system. Availability of standardized data interfaces is a very important point formultifunctional data use in different specialized software systems. Web based informationsystems are most suitable for those requirements and enable data networking for forwardlooking farming technologies.
