The working condition of lubricating oil is harsh within engine. Deterioration of oilaccelerates wearing of engine components, leads to deteriorating of the technical condition ofengine and to abnormal working finally. Therefore the engine oil should be replaced timely. Atpresent replacing engine oil regularly is common around world. There are defects in replacingoil regularly because of the difference of actual working condition of engine and degree ofdeterioration in oil. It is important to replace engine oil according to actual quality of oil and torepair engine for trouble prevention through study on deterioration.This paper applied the method of fast checking in physical & chemical index and ferrography,tested water content, acid number, flash point, burning point and iron content of the oil sampletaken from the vehicle in accordance with certain mileages, researched the deterioration law ofoil. It also forecasted the technical condition of engine by the method of ferrography.The results of study showed that water content and acid number increased, and flash point andburning point decreased along with the increasing mileages. The oil deteriorated when itreached the replacing standard, and it should be replaced. The density of ferromagnetismparticles increased slowly according to increasing mileages. The engine condition degradedwhen the density increased rapidly or unusual wearing particles appeared, and the engineshould be repaired.The lubricating oil of engine is examined regularly by the method of fast examining physical &chemical index. It can evaluate the change degree of engine oil, and realize replacing engine oilaccording to actual quality. The engine condition is monitored by the method of ferrography. Itcan evaluate the wearing degree of engine qualitatively and quantitatively, and realize repairingaccording to technical condition.
