GE Infrastructure, Water & Process Technologies has developed a unique program designed to provide refiners with the tools needed to predict, control, and monitor the risks associated with processing opportunity, or below market value, crude oils and to maximize refinery profitability. Included in this program are, I) proven chemical treatment programs, ones that have evolved from comprehensive lab simulations and refinery applications, ii) a detailed experiential knowledge base of crude oils and processing conditions, and iii) a full range of monitoring tools which have been designed to provide feedback for the control of the harmful effects of processing opportunity crudes, and to provide hard data needed to establish the baseline of the program and calculate the entitlement, or the real value of the opportunity. This paper discusses the program, PredatorTM, and highlights the most recent GE developments in these monitoring tools. Specifically, we discuss how these tools are integrated into a comprehensive program to provide refiners with the control and risk management associated with processing opportunity crudes.
