The EMOGAS? process, developed by ExxonMobil, improves the traditional PolyGas process to new operational standards. Depending on unit configuration, the EMOGAS process can be used for gasoline or diesel/jet fuel production. The EMOGAS process drastically simplifies the operation and increases the profitability of traditional PolyGas units. The EMOGAS process is expected to renew the interest for new olefin condensation units (grass root units), particularly for refineries without alkylation units. Based on a proprietary ExxonMobil catalyst, the EMOGAS process is designed to produce condensation/alkylation reactions in the presence of high olefins containing streams. The EMOGAS catalyst has many advantages with respect to the sPA catalyst used in PolyGas units. This paper describes the first successful EMOGAS commercial scale trial at Giant Yorktown refinery's polymerization unit.
