New multicomponent Hf-based bulk metallic glasses have been developed starting from a Hf-rich Hf-Cu-Ni-Al alloy containing Cu, Ni and Al in proportions near those in well known Zr-Cu-Ni-Al BMGs. In order to increase the glass forming ability and the stability of the glassy phase, selected elements with negative heats and volumes of mixing ΔH_(mix) and ΔV_(mix) respectively were added. The selective additions depress the liquidus temperature as measured by differential thermal analysis (DTA) and increase the width of the supercooled liquid region, ΔT_x = T_x-T_g between glass transition (T_g) and crystallization (T_x) temperatures.
