Optimization of Plunger-Lift Performance in Liquid Loading Gas Wells

This paper presents an algorithm to optimize the productionand shut-in periods of plunger-lift based on reservoirperformance. The algorithm combines analytical models ofreservoir and wellbore fluid flow. The implementation of thealgorithm requires a relatively simple and inexpensiveelectronic control system. The new system may be connectedto existing wellheads with minimal modification. One of theadvantages of the new algorithm is the ability to automaticallyincorporate the changes in the line pressure. An exampleapplication is presented to indicate that the new algorithm mayincrease plunger-lift production by a factor of two.
