The development of formulations, which increase skin oxygenation and of methods for measuring oxygen levels in skin are important for dealing with healing processes affected by the level of oxygen. EPR oximetry has been used to compare the effect of benzyl nicotinate (BN) action when applied to the skin incorporated into liposomes -or only -into hydrophilic gel. The composition and size of liposomes significantly affect the time at which BN starts to act and, to a lesser extent, maximum increase of pO_2 in skin. After repeated application of liposomes, a greater increase of pO_2 was observed.
