Because of the internalization of the C-terminal fragment of human calcitonin, hCT(9-32), in both excised nasal epithelium and MDCK cell layers, we consider this fragment as a lead compound to develop carrier peptides to translocate cargoes into epithelia. To investigate the mechanisms of cellular uptake, truncated fragments and modified amino acid sequences were investigated.
