In this communication we report steps in development of novel enzyme-based formulations designed for prophylaxis against OP toxicity. These formulations are based on entrapment of scavenging enzymes, capable of elimination the OP threat, within bioadhesive liposomes and positioning them in the gates through which the OP enter the living system. Here we show results on optimization of the bioadhesive carriers towards better task performance, using Butyrylcholinesterase (BChE) as a model encapsulated enzyme, and also first steps in testing liposomal OPAA as a scavenging candidate, in which we focuse on the basic aspects of retention of its activity post encapsulation, and meeting its substrate through the liposomal membrane.
