Case report using resorbable polylactide sponge for controlled release of vancomycin in methicillin resistant staph aureus osteomyelitis

Resorbable polylactide sponge soaked with 5 grams of vancomycin was used to treat a 85 year old lady with osteomyelitis of right femur caused by methicillin resistant straph aureus. The resorbable polylactide sponge served as a controlled release device of vancomycin. Vancomycin was detected up to 120 days and the blood level remained relatively constant. There was bone regeneration across the bone defect.
