USE OF A COMMERCIAL ADDITIVE FOR SLUDGE ODOUR CONTROL

The effectiveness of a commercial additive for sludge odour control was evaluated in a small-scale (2.5 kg)laboratory trial and a full-scale mill trial. The ability of the product to control odour was examined by measuring theproduction of hydrogen sulphide generation over time. The control sludge was found to generate substantialquantities of hydrogen sulphide after 24 hours. The small-scale trial demonstrated the ability of the product tocontrol hydrogen sulphide generation for two to four days, depending on the application dose. Similar results wereobserved when the product was evaluated during a full-scale trial at a kraft mill.
