The Concept of Pellevation for Shaping of Structural Forms

In this paper, a new concept is introduced which serves as a useful tool to create many different types of structural shapes in a quick and efficient way. The basic idea can be imagined as follows: A geometric object is used as a die to 'deform' any part of a given configuration (shell or lattice structure) by pushing the die upwards or downwards. This process may be repeated on the 'deformed' configuration using the same or another die. This process is referred to as pellevation. The new concept may be used in many different areas, however, it is of particular relevance to the designers of grid domes and shell structures. The initial idea of the concept has first been introduced in Ref 1.
