Space frames and classical architecture

摘要

The patterns of classical architecture and space frames are governed by the same canons, which include: Simple geometric shapes, two-fold symmetry, rhythmic regularity and recurring sets of tree parts. The great architectural historian, Sir John Summerson, argued that the classical language of architecture, inherited from Rome, was the common architectural language of nearly the whole civilized world in the five centuries between the Renaissance and our own time. The ongoing development of an architecture of space frames can be understood as a continuation and an enrichment of the classical tradition.
