Currently, 100% of sugar manufactured in the country (both Levy and non-Levy) is being packed in A-Twill Jute bags. This is required as per the compulsory packaging Act (JPMA: 1987). However the Mahajan Committee Recommendation strongly proposes to look in for cheaper solutions. Currently the sugar for exports as well as imports is being done in Non-Jute alternatives, Moreover the Cost-effective and superior alternatives of jute are available within India (PP/HDPE woven sacks). Polypropylene Woven Sacks (PWS) is a viable option. It offers the following advantages: 1. Completely Hygienic in nature 2. Moisture Resistant 3. Variable strength limits 4. Choice of colours 5. High strength to weight ratio. 6. Eco Friendly 7. Highly cost effective
