The decomposition of N_2O and NO was studied on Pd(110) through analysis of the angular and velocity distributions of desorbing products in both thermal desorption and a steady-state NO+CO reaction by using cross-correlation time-of-flight techniques. The product N_2 showed a highly inclined desorption and hyper-thermal energy in both decompositions, indicating a common intermediate. It was proposed that this peculiar desorption was due to the decomposition of aligned N_2O(a).
