We report on research about novel nanostructured semiconducting materials aimed at gas sensing. The state of the art is reviewed through practical examples of layers achieved via thin- and thick-film techniques. Correlation between electrical performance and structural features is considered, with particular emphasis to the role played by a nanostrucured material.
