The liquefaction potential of sandy soil, using monotonic undrained triaxial test,have been previously studied in detail. The undrained behaviour of silty sands is shown to be dependenton stress path, initial fabric, initial density, grain size, grain shape and silt content. Thisstudy examins the effect of shape and fine content on the strees-strain behaviour of loose saturatedsilty sands. Monotonic undrained triaxial tests were carried out on remolded, very loose to mediumdense samples. The samples were prepared with a varying percentage of nonplastic fines (passing#200 sieve) and were a mixture of Japanese standard sand (Toyoura Sand) with 0,10,16.7 and 30percent fines. The silty size particles were angular silt (Toyoura Silt) and round glass spheres.
