The paper analyzes the main characteristics of a new elastic-plastic dissipation devicefor seismic protection obtained from an I beam profile. It realizes a state of uniform plastic deformationthanks to the structural scheme adopted. Analytical and experimental hysteretic cyclesare reported, and compared to those calculated accounting for the variation of geometry. The cyclicresponse results stable even after many cycles. It is shown how the main source of configurationhardening derives from the geometric non-linearity of the deformation.
