The southeastern, Pennsylvania site is situated on high ground with drop-offs to the north, east, and west. The site is nearly 9 acres in size and includes two plant buildings that were used for printing operations (Figure 1). The printing operations at the site included the use of tetrachloroethene (PCE) as a solvent from 1957 to 1990. Originally, PCE was periodically delivered to the plant in bulk and stored in two 250 gallon steel Underground Storage Tanks (USTs). In 1975, two new steel USTs were installed and the former tanks were closed. The solvent was piped into the building and used for "type wash" to clean lead dies and machinery used in the printing process. The waste from this process was piped to the waste solvent UST. PCE and solvent tank usage was discontinued in 1990.
