An experimental faiclity for evaluating the performance of gas-fired desiccant-based air conditioning systems is described.to demonstrate the operating characteristics of a commercially-available desiccant unit, the results of a test run are presented an discussed. The test system is a rotary desiccant dehumidifier incorporating a gas-fired boiler for regeneration. The performance parameters, including hte moisture removal capacity and coefficient of performance, are reported with the the uncertainties prescribed.Other subject matters investigated in this study are the temporal and spatial variations of the supply air properties and their probable causes. The relatively high uncertainties reported for the performance data are attributed to the presence of spatial variations in the supply air properties, tmperature and humidity ratio. This implies that these measurements, particularly the humidity ratio, should be taken in locations where the air is well mixed. The control scheme of the regeneration heating system is found to be the governing factor for the temporal fluctuations.
