Characterization of Aluminum Titanate Prepared with Alumina-Titania Slag from a Ferroalloy Plant

Aluminum titanate was prepared by solid reaction of raw materials including alumina-titania slag from ferroalloy plant and titanium dioxide.Crystalline phase and microstructure were analyzed by XRD and SEM,respectively.The lattice parameters and crystallinity of the crystalline phase were estimated by X'Pert plus software.The phase composition was evaluated by semi-quantification method.The effects of calcining temperature and Zr4+ on composition,lattice parameters,crystallinity and microstructure of crystalline phases were studied.Results show that the lattice parameters and lattice volume of Aluminum titanate are affected by the substitution of Zr4+ for Mg2+ in the structure of aluminum titanate.The structure defects caused by Zr4+ can accelerate the ion diffusion in the structure of aluminum titanate.The thermal defects caused by high temperature also promote the formation of aluminum titanate.
