Experimental radiative heat transfer fluxes and coefficients were derived in a pilot scale CFBC unit from the difference between the heat removed by two vertical U-tubes which were virtually identical except for their surface emissivities. The measurements indicate that suspension density plays a significant role for the conditions studied whereas particle size has little influence. Radiation accounts for typically 25 to 45 percent of the total heat transfer for the conditions studied.
