In a PFBC gas turbine, hot corrosion is considered one of the life-limiting factors. It was reported that the alkali vapor concentration should be suppressed to less than 24 ppb for the conventional oil fired gas turbine. To establish the life assessment on the PFBC gas turbine, a reliable alkali-vapor measurign technique that can detect such a low concentration is needed. The authors of this paper have measured alkali-vapor concentrations in the Wakamatsu PFBC plant, the first PFBC demonstration unit in Japan, by using the activated bauxite adsorption method (AASB) developed by Argonne National Laboratory, and a flame atomic emission spectrometer(FAES) method.
