The information society and mobility telematics applications in transport

摘要

Over the last years a substantial research effort has been undertaken for the systematic application of telecommunication and informatic technologies (telematics) in transport. The results of these research effects have proven the potential of telementics to improve efficiency and safety and to reduce the negative effects of transport on the environment. As a result administrations and industry have started investing in this new area. Hoowever, this infocommunication revolution which is happening in the transport sector is symptomatic of a much larger trend affecting the whole of society, which in Europe has become known as "the global information society".
