A stated choice experiment: value of travel characteristics in the context of attica

In the attica region valuations of travel time are required, to be used for modeling purposes and economic project evaluation within the scope of the Metro Development Study. To estimate the impact of price and travel time changes on ridership and road use, a stated choice experiment has been designed, executed and analyzed in 1996. The market segmentation approach foresees different categorical response models by trip purpose, vehicle availability class and income group. The model results suggest a notable variation in time valuation by trip purpose, a value of the increasing with the income, and a high transfer disutility.
