This paper describes the findings of a survey of a large number of U.S. manufacturing firms on the use of various approaches to manufacturing improvement. In this study, two individuals from each firm were asked to evaluate a set of separate criteria, one involving usage of different manufavturing improvement approaches and the other to rate performance across several specific performance capability dimensions. Results of this survey present the use of these approaches by manufacturing firms and the performance implications that have resulted from their use.
