Despite of the high recycling rate, approx. 55% of the total lead production is recovered in primary lead smelters. More than 85% of this primary lead is still produced using Dwight-Lloyd sinter machines and blast furnace operations, which basically has not altered during the last 90 years. This old practice is no longer compatible with modern requirements regarding economy and environmental protection.
