Savannah atms: implementing the atlanta atms in a smaller city

The Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) is currently implementing a statewide Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) program. The Atlanta Regional ATMS is the DOT's initial ITS project and is under construction with on-line operations scheduled to begin by July 1996, in time for the 1996 Olympic Games which are to be held in Atlanta. The Atlanta ATMS is designed so that it can be implemented in multiple jurisdictions throughout the state in addition to its initial implementation. Georgia DOT selected the Savannah area for the second ITS implementation project, also scheduled to be operational prior to the Olympics. Future ITS projects are anticipated for Athens, Augusta, Columbus, and Macon.
