The behavior and strength predicion in flexure for steel-reinforced polymer concrete (PC) beams using unsaturated polyester resins based on recycled poly(ethylene terephthalate), PET, are investigated in this paper. The test results show that very good flexural strength could be obtained with reinforced PC using recycled PET. The material is comparable in terms of its flexural strength to PC beams using virgin resins. To predict the ultimate flexural strength of steel-reinforced PC beams, the conventional ACI approach developed for steel-reinforced portland cement concrete was first tried. The ACI method yielded conservative results when extended to PC beams. An alternative design procedure was then derived for reinforced PC beams based on statistical analysis of empirical results.
