The proposed CMV vessel can be designed with a diameter large enough to contain the core of a nuclear reactor and a large inventory of primary coolant fluid. The possible addition of extra tendon and shell-layers to the multilayer jackets will further increase the diameter, volume, and pressure capacity of the container. The CMV can be designed to tolerate steep thermal gradients, including gradients caused by cooling the container from the outside, for example, in order to remove the decay heat after a postulated excursion in a nuclear reactor.
