This paper presents an optimal 2.5 dimensional fuzzy linguisticcontroller for an anti-lock braking system. The controller's rule baseand its fuzzy sets are optimized by simulated annealing, a random searchoptimization algorithm. The excellent performance of the controller isproved by the simulation of a complete emergency braking action on aroad surface with a time varying adhesion coefficient. To simulate thebehavior of the vehicle body, the equations of motion for a bicyclemodel are derived
