In order to develop a new air bag system which is lighter weight and produces lessharmful gases, non-chlorine and non-metal gas generating composition, such as mixture of5-amino-1H-tetrazole(HAT) and phase stabilized ammonium nitrate(PSAN) has beeninvestigated. And additional effect of metal fuels such as magnalium and aluminum to thebase composition on thermal and deflagration behavior was evaluated using SC-DSC andthe deflagration tests in this work. From this evaluation, addition of hyper fine aluminumpowder was found to have favorable effects on both thermal and deflagration properties ofthe base compositions, while addition of magnalium and flake aluminum showed lessfavorable effects on them.
