The H_(infinity) filtering technique was employed to identify parameters of structural systems. The adaptive H_(infinity) filter was established by adding a forgetting factor to the H_(infinity) filter in order to identify time-varying structural systems. The identification algorithms using the H_(infinity) filtering technique were applied to a SDOF linear systems, to a 5 DOF linear system with non-stationary dynamc characteristics and to a 5 DOF nonlinear system. Digital simulation results show that the H_(infinity) and adaptive H_(infinity) filters are efficient for identifying structural systems. The behaviors of the H_(infinity) and adaptive H_(infinity) filters are better than that of the Kalman and adaptive Kalman filters for identification of structural systems.
