Medical database migration using new XML Internet standard

摘要

This paper proposes a Hospital Information System architecturebased on the new XML (eXtensible Markup Language) standard forstructured data transmission in Internet. The proposed approach has beenapplied to upgrading an existing electrocardiography database, and themethodology utilized is documented. An Object oriented medical datamodel is defined using XML. A number of services are provided in aclient/server website environment developed by the use of XML, XSL(eXtensible Stylesheet Language), Javascript and Java applets.Attractive system features are decentralization, since local dataprocessing and bi-directional communication are granted, compatibilityoffered by the use of web standards world-wide accepted like the HTTPprotocol, expandability using emerging Internet and multimediatechnologies, and easy migration from previous systems of datainterchange
